JAZZ OVERHAUL RELEASES DEBUT ALBUM FILTHY, A JAZZ TRIBUTE TO SEATTLE’S GRUNGE LEGACY

Seattle-based jazz quartet Jazz Overhaul has released their debut album, Filthy, available now on vinyl, CD, and digital download. The project reimagines landmark tracks from Seattle’s iconic 1990s grunge scene — a genre that reshaped rock music and launched bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains onto the global stage.

With Filthy, Jazz Overhaul brings a jazz instrumental approach to these timeless compositions, honoring the raw power of the originals while opening them up for improvisational exploration. The result is a fresh and soulful reinterpretation that bridges genres while remaining rooted in the spirit of the source material.

“As musicians from the Northwest, we’ve always felt connected to the grunge scene — not just as fans, but as locals shaped by its sound and attitude,” says saxophonist and producer Cliff Colón. “This album is about respecting that legacy while exploring it through the language of jazz.”

Recorded at Studio Litho in Seattle by Floyd Reitsma, and mixed and mastered by Ian Sheridan at Electric Donkeyland Studio in Oahu, Hawai’i, Filthy features Cliff Colón (saxophone), Jake Sele (keyboards), Osama Afifi (bass), and D’Vonne Lewis (drums) — four accomplished musicians known throughout the Pacific Northwest for their versatility and creative vision.

The album’s visual elements include artwork by Travis Bundy of Thought Box Comics (Tacoma, WA), videography by Aaron Pedersen, video editing by Peter Adams, and cover photography by Kassandra Morrow. Mechanical licensing was secured through EasySong.com.

Jazz Overhaul was named NW Alternative Jazz Group of the Year in 2024, and continues to build momentum with their distinct blend of jazz, rock, and regional musical heritage. Filthy offers a new way to experience songs that defined a generation — now through the lens of improvisation, groove, and instrumental storytelling.
